I began my dance journey more than 35 years ago in my native New Zealand, where I competed in Amateur Ballroom while completing my MS in Psychology. After moving to the United States in 1998, I launched my teaching career at a Pennsylvania studio and expanded my training into the American styles of Smooth and Rhythm.
For more than 20 years, I’ve taught in San Diego, sharing the joy of dance with students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. I’m especially passionate about helping beginners — including many reluctant grooms — discover confidence on the dance floor. My teaching style is patient, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals, whether they’re learning for social enjoyment, preparing for a showcase, or training for competition.
As a wedding dance specialist, I’ve helped over 150 San Diego couples create memorable first dances. My students consistently describe my lessons as supportive, clear, and genuinely fun.
Professional development is central to my work. Since 2006, I’ve trained with world‑renowned coach Toni Redpath and incorporate her Global Smooth System into all of my teaching. I served as Technical Writer and Editor for the recently rewritten Dance Vision Smooth syllabus and am certified for Global Smooth Certification where I serve as Head Trainer and Examiner (www.globalsmoothcertification.com). I also coach other professionals in technique, pedagogy, and exam preparation.
I hold professional certifications in both Smooth (American Style) and Ballroom (International Style), maintain membership in the Dance Vision Professional Teacher Organization, and am a member of the NDCA.
In addition to my private teaching, I serve as the primary instructor and Dance Program Director for Let’s Dance Kids!, a nonprofit providing free ballroom dance training to children who might not otherwise have access to the arts (www.letsdancekids.org).
