I started ballroom dancing in a high school class in New Zealand. I met my husband in dance class while we were both in grad school. We became partners and competed together successfully in the Amateur International Ballroom division. After graduating with my MS in Applied Psychology we moved to the United States. I've been working as an instructor for more than 20 years now, in both American and International dance styles.
In 2005 we moved to San Diego, where I love to share my joy of dance with students of all ages and abilities. I have many students whose primary goal is enjoying social dance, but I also train students to perform in showcases and competitions. I’ve helped over 150 San Diego couples make their wedding dance memorable. I love working with beginners (including reluctant grooms!), customizing my dance lessons to fit each individual or couple’s goals and learning style.
I worked as an instructor at Champion Ballroom for nine years before becoming an independent instructor. During that time I was responsible for training studio teachers as well as teaching students. I still train professionals in how to prepare for certification exams.
I believe continued training is very important to ensure quality instruction for my students. I train weekly with top Smooth coach, Toni Redpath. I’m a member of the Dance Vision Professional Teacher Organization, and the NDCA, and have achieved professional certifications in American Smooth and Rhythm as well as International Ballroom. I'm also a certified instructor in the Global Smooth System, and an examiner in the Global Smooth Chart System, created by Toni Redpath.
I am the Dance Program Director and primary instructor for Let's Dance Kids!, a non-profit foundation based in the South Bay School District with the goal of providing ballroom dance training to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity. (www.letsdancekids.org)
