I started Ballroom Dance 35 years ago in a high school class in my native New Zealand. I met my husband in dance class while we were both in grad school; we competed together successfully in the Amateur International Standard division in New Zealand. After graduating with my Master of Science in Applied Psychology we moved to the United States. Twenty years ago I started working as an instructor, training in the American dance styles, and teaching in a dance studio in Harrisburg, PA.
In 2005 we moved to San Diego, where I love to share my joy of dance with students of all ages and abilities. I have many students whose primary goal is enjoying social dance, but I also train students to perform in showcases and competitions. I’ve helped over 150 San Diego couples make their wedding dance memorable. I love working with beginners (including reluctant grooms!), customizing my dance lessons to fit each individual or couple’s goals and learning style.
I believe continued training is very important to ensure quality instruction for my students. I’m a member of the Dance Vision Professional Teacher Organization, and the NDCA, and have achieved professional certifications in American Smooth and Rhythm as well as International Standard.
I’m also the Instructor and Dance Program Director for Let's Dance Kids!, a non-profit foundation based in the South Bay School District with the goal of providing Ballroom Dance training to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
